The Old School House was built as the village school in 1823, and later became the Schoolmaster’s house in 1855, when a new school was built next door. We have completely renovated this Georgian property to create a cosy, welcoming home with many original features and all modern conveniences.
If you’re staying with us we’ll do our best to make you feel at home, with a cuppa and some home-made cake when you arrive.
Breakfast is included in our price, and you can choose from a range of Healthy or Hearty options, including fresh fruit with Greek yogurt, cold cuts, locally sourced Cumberland sausage and bacon, and creamy scrambled eggs, all served with lashings of freshly brewed coffee or one of our speciality teas. We provide dairy-free, gluten-free and meat-free alternatives – just tell us your dietary requirements when you book.
We can provide a packed lunch for you, and we’ll also share our family dinner with you in the evenings – there’s an additional charge for these meals.
This large double room looks over Ravenglass to Black Combe and is equipped with king sized bed, crisp linen and large, fluffy towels. There’s a desk and free Wi Fi if you need to catch up on work.
This is our largest bedroom, with a a view of the Drigg sand dunes towards the lovely Isle of Man. There’s a super-king sized double bed with crisp linen and large, fluffy towels. The bed can be made up into twin beds if you prefer. There’s also a sofa bed, available as a third single bed for a supplementary fee!
Drigg is a quiet village, ideal if you want to get away from tourist hotspots. There are pleasant walks from our front door, and the magnificent beach is only a few minutes away. The West Coast Rail line is spectacularly beautiful as it crosses estuaries to the south, heading for Lancaster, and clings to cliffsides to the north en route for historic Carlisle.

Shelagh and David have done a beautiful renovation of a very old school house. Very upscale and comfortable. I especially appreciated the pillows and comfortable mattress. The bathroom is beautiful! They are very gracious hosts, directing us to a lovely beach walk and then to a great inn for dinner. The breakfast was delicious. They were very helpful finding a beautiful hike for us the next day. We highly recommend their place on the Lake District coast.Richard & Kristen, New Hampshire
