We love cooking and entertaining, and sharing our home in this beautiful corner of the world. We enjoy meeting people of all nationalities, ages and creeds - regardless of your background, you are welcome in our home. Here’s what some of our guests have said about us…
Shelagh and David were really welcoming and their knowledge of the local area and hiking in the lake district was very helpful. They gave us advice on hiking routes, the most scenic drives and the best pubs to stop in after a long day of walking.
Shelagh and David are really nice people. They were very helpful with tips and advises of what to around the Lake District area. They also lend us a map and book so we could study our way on top of Scafell Pike. We had every morning a nice fresh and big breakfast prepared by themselves so we never left the house hungry. I would recommend to everybody to stay at Shelagh and David's place as they will not be disappointed but nicely surprised!!
We arrived and were greeted with tea and the most delicious home made cake. David and Shelagh were the perfect hosts.
Shelagh and David are great hosts. They made me feel totally at ease in their house. I was treated to two very yummy suppers and much enjoyed chatting with them.
Super hosts; they were genuinely interested in me and my needs whilst being hosted in their home.
Shelagh and David provide a peaceful and restful retreat from busy life against the backdrop of mountains, lakes AND the beach. Their kind welcome was just the start of a very special stay. Great food, lovely company and conversations, and a really beautiful room; a true home from home!
We could not believe the 5 star service and hospitality shown by Shelagh and David during our stay. From the warm greeting (and welcome cup of tea with home made cake), we received on arrival, to the sad farewell when we had to depart, we felt we were treated as family in a true home from home setting.
Shelagh and David were wonderful hosts. Welcoming, friendly, helpful and just good company!

Shelagh and David were great hosts, lovely home and overall great hospitality. The hosts are talkative, conversations with them were really interesting and engaging.
We were very glad in the end to have stayed the full duration as Shelagh and David spoiled us with their hospitality and generous gestures, from the lovely dinner and desert (lactose-free custard for the amazing apple crumble at short notice) to writing notes on places for us to visit in the future (based on our very interesting dinner conversations).
For me it didn't feel like I was checking in to a room, it felt like I was visiting family :)
The hosts are amazing people who made us feel like home. Their attentiveness and banter is second to none. Being extremely flexible, they will leave you to it if you wanted to, and would be up for a cuppa and a chat if that is what you intended.
The Old School House was built as the village school in 1823, and later became the Schoolmaster’s house in 1855, when a new school was built next door. David and Shelagh have completely renovated this Georgian property to create a cosy, welcoming home with many original features and all modern conveniences.
Drigg is a quiet village, ideal if you want to get away from tourist hotspots. There are pleasant walks from our front door, and the magnificent beach is only a few minutes away. The West Coast Rail line is spectacularly beautiful as it crosses estuaries to the south, heading for Lancaster, and clings to cliffsides to the north en route for historic Carlisle.

Shelagh and David have done a beautiful renovation of a very old school house. Very upscale and comfortable. I especially appreciated the pillows and comfortable mattress. The bathroom is beautiful! They are very gracious hosts, directing us to a lovely beach walk and then to a great inn for dinner. The breakfast was delicious. They were very helpful finding a beautiful hike for us the next day. We highly recommend their place on the Lake District coast.Richard & Kristen, New Hampshire
